👋 Hey Reader, how are you?

Working in the advertisement industry in Japan changed a few things in my life and how I approach them. If I were to pick one of them, it would be the Japanese "customer-first" culture...

As Digital Artists, we might often curse our clients because of what they "force us" to do. Artistic choices, limitations... And we are in a good place to feel that way, right? After all, each of us has dreams and ambitions as artists. Me, I always wanted to become a Hollywood movie director! And I always wanted to create the most cutting edge, photorealistic and artistic images as a Lead 3D Artist. But I was often frustrated by my client's wishes and felt that they were hindering me…

Years of living and breathing the Japanese culture, I internalized why I was actually doing, what I was doing.

We are all there because we are helping others. We couldn’t have our jobs, our income, if it weren’t for that reasons. Even an artist who is only selling his pieces is creating them for others to see. And this is continued on our clients level and their clients and so forth. It’s the circle of life, mate! 🙂

On this beautiful little planet, we are all supposed to help each other.

So making our clients happy in every way is our mission! This goes for any profession, of course. But we are special in the sense that our talents combine art and technology, and our clients are very much dependent on us. Our good taste. Our will to develop our personality and skills. And we will be rewarded. With their trust. With more work. With more money. With appreciation.

You can still become frustrated, though – I totally get that, Reader.

So here is my spin on getting out of that frustration. It takes will and effort and most importantly a vision. But things that come too easy in life are boring anyway, right? 😉

Envision what you want your life to look like in 5 years; in 10 years; in 15 years. And I mean life, not just work, right? Cause it’s all connected. Do you still want to work in this field? How and where and what exactly? How much money do you want to make?

From there, you can craft a plan on what you need for that to happen. You invest time and the money you can come up with into your skills and your taste. You show the world (and your clients) what you are capable of, time after time. You find your niche and become an expert. And surely you will then find the clients and the jobs or the employment that you wish for.

That’s how I became the entrepreneurial Digital Creator that I am right now! Because it makes me happy to serve you!

Let me finish this week’s email up by asking you:

Reader, what is your biggest frustration right now about being a Digital Artist, and what do you want to change?

Thanks for reading, Reader.

I appreciate you. Have a fantastic day!

Warm Regards,

Manuel

PS: When you message me about your big frustration (it can be healing to vent a little), tell me what country you are from, will ya? I'm from Germany btw, if I missed to tell you before 😉
