Howdy Reader, how is it going today?

Since I became a entrepenaurial creator, my life is...dense...to say the least. In the morning I get everything ready for our three kids for school/kindergarten. Then I work. Then I spent as much time with my family as possible. In the evening, after bringing the kids to bed, I work again until late into the night...

To say the least, our household is being left behind, to my and my more than fulltime working wife's dismay. And three kids make a lot of dirt! 😅 But that's the life I chose and I wouldn't want it any other way, so...

I embrace the imperfections!

As a mindful 3D Artist, imperfections are a source of inspiration to me. I stand infront of dirty or broken things, shift my view, see how they look in different lighting, save these references in my memories.

So I can later implement them in my work with the goal to make people wonder if my renderings are photographs.

By doing so there is more potential for the viewer to see behind an artificial image and get sucked up into the story that lies behind it.

Straigh up advice:

Never leave a material in your rendering without imperfections! 😱 Seems like a lot of work?

I just released a single texture that might solve it all for ya:

It is huge: 60cm² and 15k pixel resolution, full of more or less subtle dirt, smutches and hairs.

You just slap it onto anything you have, don't need to worry about repetitions or your objects looking too grungy – you're good to go!

You might have a picture in your mind, of me running through our appartement and taking photos of dirt, and that's exactly how this texture came to existence 🤣

Mindfulness quote of the week

In your very imperfections you will find the basis for your firm, way-seeking mind. Those who can sit perfectly physically usually take more time to obtain the true way of Zen (...) But those who find great difficulties in practicing Zen will find more meaning in it.
Shunryu Suzuki: Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind

Don't forget your lighting!

You might not have seen my tutorial on my Youtube Channel about why using lights without any texture ain't a good idea. It makes a huge difference for your product or automotive renderings or anywhere you use areal lights!

Thanks for checking in today, Reader!

I appreciate you. Have a fantastic day!

Warm Regards,

Manuel
